Phonemic awareness is an important skill to learn reading and spelling. For many children, this is a very challenging task.
These mats target this essential skill the “phonemic awareness”. The child must identify the sounds in each word and decide if it includes the target sound.
How to play? I will give you some ideas and you can use them depending on the child level.
- Point out to the child what words includes the sound “d” by saying the word… starts with “d”.
- Ask the child if the word includes the target sound or not.
- The child tell you what word includes the target sound and if it’s at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of the word.
- The child to give you words that include the target sound.
To make it more fun, I included a Black and White copy, for each page, to color.
